Knowing what type of rug is best for a nursery isn’t always easy. Kids rugs are super cute, but they also offer a comfy spot for crawling adventures and those first wobbly steps. Get ready to design the perfect haven where lasting memories are made.

When should I start decorating my baby’s room?

The best time to start decorating your baby’s haven is when it feels right for you and your family. The most important thing is to create a space filled with love, warmth, and your own unique style to welcome your new baby.

Before the arrival: This allows you to have everything prepared well in advance. It’s a proactive approach that can ease stress and ensure the room is ready.

After birth: This way, you can get inspiration from your baby’s personality and preferences. Plus, it can be a wonderful bonding experience to do together as a family.

A mix of both: This lets you create a basic, functional nursery before the arrival and add personal touches as you get to know your baby better.

Infuse cosy magic into your baby’s space

By infusing magic into your nursery with the right rugs, you’ll not only ensure a comfortable environment, but also craft a place where cherished memories are sure to be made.

The soft and plush textures offered by cotton kids rugs will not only provide a comfortable play area for your little one but also create an inviting vibe.
Rugs in soothing, pastel colours or playful patterns that match the nursery’s theme. These choices can add a touch of fun and personality.
Look for options that are easy to clean, as baby rooms are no strangers to spills and messes.
Rugs are not just for the floor. You can use them as wall hangings to create a visually cosy and stunning effect.

Wrap your nursery in safety and comfort

When choosing what type of rug is best for a nursery, it’s essential to provide a soft and secure foundation for your little one to explore.

Select soft, gentle materials like wool rugs for kids that offer a cosy surface for babies to crawl, play and explore.
Look for rugs certified as safe for babies, such as our machine-made kids rugs with the STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX label.
Since babies are prone to spills and accidents, choose easy-to-clean rugs, washable rugs for kids.
Low-pile rugs are a safer option than high-pile ones as they reduce the chances of trips and falls.
Use anti-slip options to ensure they stay securely in place, reducing the risk of accidents.

Pick the perfect palette

Choosing a calming nursery colour that’s both comforting and visually stimulating, helps to foster early development and creativity.

Pastel colours are a great choice, as they infuse the space with a soft and inviting atmosphere. These gentle hues, such as blue, pink, green, or yellow, have a soothing quality that can promote tranquillity and relaxation for your baby.

To further enhance the nursery, consider incorporating rugs with playful motifs. An animal or nature theme can add an extra layer of charm. They not only contribute to the visual aesthetics but also serve as educational tools, sparking your baby’s curiosity about the world around them.

Choose a rug shape that rocks for the space

When deciding on the shape of rug you need, measure the nursery’s dimensions, accounting for any furniture placement, traffic flow and the ambiance you want to create.

Rectangular kids rugs fit well under cribs, changing tables or in the centre of the room to define a play area.
Round rugs for a kids room can be placed under a cot or in a corner for a cosy reading nook.
If you’re looking for something that can be placed alongside the cot or changing table, a kids room runner rug is a great choice. These provide a comfortable surface for you to stand on when soothing your little one.
Irregular shaped kids rugs can be placed near a toy area or used as a cosy spot for tummy time.

Choose easy-to-clean rug materials

A good plan is to select materials that not only contribute to the room’s aesthetics, but are also practical for everyday life.

Synthetic rugs for kids are ideal for a nursery due to their durability, lightness, resistance to stains and moisture, and ease of cleaning, as they are machine-washable at 30°.
Cleaning soft cotton rugs is a breeze, as they’re machine washable. Just toss them in at 30° for a fresh and fluffy result.
Jute rugs can be gently spot-cleaned with a slightly damp cloth, but quick action is crucial to prevent stains from setting.
Wool rugs have a natural dirt-repelling quality and are easily cleaned by dabbing spills with an undyed, damp cloth.
