300 x 400 cm rugs

A 300 x 400 cm rug is 3 metres wide and 4 metres long, covering 12 m² of floor. In feet that’s roughly 10″ x 13″. To put that in perspective: it’s bigger than the floor area of many standard single bedrooms, and in a typically-sized living room it will cover most of the floor. Mark out 300 x 400 cm on your floor with masking tape before ordering — it’s the quickest way to know if the size is right.

It depends on the size of your room. In a living room 5.5 metres wide or more, it works well and will pull the space together. For smaller living spaces, a 200 x 300 rug or 250 x 350 rug might be a better starting point.

A 300 x 400 rug is best suited to large dining tables that seat 10 or more, or tables that measure around 150 x 250 cm or larger. With 60–70 cm of rug beyond the table edge on all sides, there’s enough room for chairs to be pulled back fully without leaving the rug.

Yes. A super-king bed is 180 x 200 cm, so a 300 x 400 rug centred under the frame leaves around 60 cm on each side and 100 cm at the foot – a generous, hotel-style border.

It varies by material. A flatweave polypropylene rug at this size might weigh 10–14 kg, while a thick wool rug can weigh 50 kg or more.

Wool is the top all-rounder – durable, soft and naturally stain-resistant, though heavy at this size. Polypropylene is lighter and hardwearing, a practical choice for homes with kids or pets. Cotton flatweaves are the lightest option and easy to spot-clean, but not machine washable at this size.
